With the first of its kind in this country; The ECL (or European Console League for those of you who didn’t know) touched down in the great city of Liverpool at the BT Convention Centre between 30th July and 1st August.

Doors opened at 2pm with hundreds of our beloved MixAmps gloriously laid out at each of the gaming stations, adding a certain touch of class to the whole event.  ;-)   Over XXX hundred gamers attended, competing for £25,000 of prize money across five games:

Halo 3
Gears of War
COD4 Modern Warfare
Super Street Fighter 4
FIFA 2010

The event was a resounding success and we particularly enjoyed meeting so many of the players as many of teams dropped by our booth to say hi. We were especially impressed to see one guy sporting a rather tasty pair of bright pink A40’s!! Good man, who said real men don’t wear pink? J

Congrats to Power Gaming, Imperial eSports, Fnatic, MSI, LLL Ryan Hart, Imperial AdamW, Fuzion and Vintage for taking first place in their respective tournaments and taking home some sweet Astro Headsets along with their share of the cash prize pool.

We highly recommend that any and all gamers think seriously about attending the next ECL event.  Even if you're not into the pressure of cut-throat competition, ECL had set up another huge hall where people could bring their own Xbox’s and monitors and play to their heart’s content without nagging mothers/wives/girlfriends in the wings.   A very good call I say!

Our friends at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH have announced a Six vs. Six METAL GEAR ONLINE tournament starting February 26th! Hosted by my-liga.com, this free tournament is open to all European MGO gamers to compete for a ton of sweet MGS4 gear.

What you may ask? The first place team of 6 players each will walk away with an MGS4 A40 Audio System (available in the US only, UK very soon!), the second place team will each win Scout Backpacks, and the third place team will all get our Mission Bag. Lastly, all participating players will get Reward Points to spend in the MGO store.

There's nothing like an MLG championship weekend to completely blow you away with upsets, insanity, and great times.

To start the craziness of the weekend, Florida greeted us with ridiculous frosty lows of 1-2C and even lower wind-chill temperatures. Thankfully the magic of Weather.com helped us come prepared to battle the frozen tundra that was Orlando. Really, we're not exaggerating.

Despite the record breaking low temperatures, ASTRO Gaming came to MLG Orlando with two of our latest releases, the Scout Backpack and Headset Stand. Both premiered at the ASTRO booth for the first time and completely sold out. We just might have to bring some more next time, don't you think?

Also new to the ASTRO booth was MLG's first female pro, Xena who has joined our elite group of ASTRO girls. Be sure to stop by and say hi, maybe even challenge her to a little bit of Halo 3 next time!

The ridiculousness didn't stop there with some of the biggest upsets seen in MLG history. We'll let the MLG guys give you all of the championship recaps here. Congrats to our friends in Believe The Hype for taking 1st place in Halo 3 and THE NSAN3Z for winning 1st place in Gears of War 2!

We at Astro Gaming want to extend a huge thanks to our friends at Gunnar Optiks, Dr. Pepper, SEGA and especially every single person at MLG for an amazing 2009 season. If MLG 2010 is half as much fun as this past year, we absolutely can't wait.
